A Portrait of maud
People have range. You may have some dominant traits that people remember you by, but we’re all complex and multifaceted. So with each photoshoot, finding out what makes someone tick and then capturing it is what photography for me is all about.
On this shoot with Maud Elena, similarly, we wanted to capture the different sides of her personality, as well as incorporate her interests. She loves black and white images, so these high-contrast shots on a white backdrop were perfect for that, and we incorporated her love for art by including simple flowers as a nod to the floral elements found in some of her favorite paintings.
Maud is equally comfortable with delivering your classic, stoic-but-powerful looks as she is with letting her smile do the talking. We kept the setup simple, but added variety through using a wide lens that let us playfully include the studio background in a shot, did a few shots on the floor, and had a fan going to give motion to her hair.
As a photographer, our job is similar to that of a coach. We direct and help set the tone and vision for a photo shoot, but ultimately it’s our job to get out of the way and let the players play. Maud Elena brought her A-game here, and it shows!
