Model People: Emma
When I first started working with models, I was intrigued by how bizarre and experimental editorial fashion photography could be, but I realized that I wanted work that felt true to me, and in pursuing something real and unique to the person I photographed, I felt I could create something more unique than work with funky clothes or wild makeup. It was fascinating how they could become another person in front of the camera, but what’s more unique than the individual?
And that’s what sprung this series I am tentatively calling Model People. The goal is to incorporate true elements from the models’ lives into the photos, things they are passionate about and that help shape their true identities. (I had experimented with this approach a year ago in what I was calling a Docu-Shoot.) Not only are they models, but they are individuals, artists, actors, hikers, vloggers, athletes, and more. And you can’t get more “true elements from the models’ lives” than a pregnant model, am I right?
My main goal for this session with Emma was to not make it a maternity shoot, and she was on board. It was about capturing her in this moment of her life, with her beloved dogs, highlighting her as a model, a professional makeup artist, and expectant mother (and also her unspoken dreams of being a rockstar!). Hope you all like these as much as we do!
